Never Say Never

This newsletter contains affiliate links. Not all of them, but some of them. I earn a small commission, and it doesn’t cost you anything. I call that a win-win.

Handling Rejections

So it took me three attempts to get Pat Flynn on my show (he kept having children). That is an example of when a “No” isn’t a “No.” It’s a “Not Now” and often we are looking through the eyes of rejection and it smears our vision.

The band Rush has just announced they are going to do a small tour ( with tickets at 600+ ea as I check the Cleveland location) in 2026.

When their drummer first died, it was more or less, “Never again.” Neil Peart is pretty unreplaceable. Then they were asked to join the Taylor Hawkins tributes (Foo Fighters Drummer). Alex and Geddy (lifelong friends) started “Jamming” in their basement, and being 10 years later, the pain and grief had reduced to a level where they felt they could do a limited tour. Also, they said it was “fun” to play those old songs.

One of the biggest reasons podcasts stop? It’s not fun anymore. So guard those things that bring fun into the podcast.

Now I realize that “Patience is a virtue, and I want some now!” so living in the microwave world we live in, that “Not Now” answer may not go over well.

Speaking of Neil Peart, and the fact that I’ve typed over 100 words without mentioning AI, let’s quote Neil from the Song “The Spirit of Radio”

All this machinery (AI) making modern music (or podcasts)
Can still be open-hearted
Not so coldly charted, it’s really just a question of your honesty
Yeah, your honesty

One likes to believe in the freedom of music (or podcasts)
But glittering prizes and endless compromises
Shatter the illusion of integrity, yeah

Stuff That Caught My Eye

Do You Have a Wall of Love?

My current page for Testimonials is a bit of a mess at www.schoolofpodcasting.com/testimonials. I’ve got text, audio video and it’s just not great (the testimonials are, but the layout….) so I found Feedspace which makes it easy to display and collect emails. Using their chrome plugin, I was able to import recommendations from Linkedin (this is what I have so far).

They have a free plan if you want to kick the tires.

Really, I Don’t Hate YouTube

I know I often point out bad things about YouTube like this Veteran YouTube who has just had it because youTube keeps giving him strikes but I just want you to go into Youtube with your eyes open. YouTube giveth, and YouTube taketh away.

You Have to Tip Your Hat

I know Taylor Swift doesn’t need more publicity, but she was on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the album had been out less than 24 hours and a studio filled with her fans knew every word. Like her or not, it was impressive. Check it out.

My Move From Kit - Update

So far things are going smooth, and I haven’t found that, “Oh wait I didn’t think about that.” I thought Systeme (the service I’m moving to) wouldn’t enable me to embed a sign up form on other websites (but it turns out I can). So no “Gotcha” yet. Just the joys of learning a new system. I talked about this in a previous issue.

What’s Coming In The Future

On Thursday the 9th I will be joined by Jim MacLeod, author of Visual Marketer, to explore how podcasters can create a professional, cohesive brand. I’m up to chapter 5 and it’s got some great advice especially if you’re new to making graphics.
